Result of the year for Caley Thistle

I promise, this blog is NOT just about my soccer teams. But today, the Caley Thistle went into the toughest house in Scottish football and won. Dundee United had six wins and one draw from their first seven matches at home. They beat Rangers in that span. Today's 1-0 win by the Caley makes us the first team this year to get a result at Tannadice. It's been a tough start to the season, but things are starting to shape up a bit. Wee Ian Black's 20th minute strike was enough to take this one, for our second 1-0 win in as many weeks. When a team is struggling, a good manager (like Caley's Craig Brewster) shores up the defense and does his best to grind out results, and that's just what we've done. Mon the Caley!

Yay Caley!

What makes Tannadice so difficult? Noise? Crowd? Or just a long string of wins for Dundee United?

Really just their recent form there. United has great fans, and it's always a tough place to go, but this season, they've been absolutely unstoppable there. Compound that with Caley only having one away win going into this match, and it's a hell of a good result. Ninth place and eleven points above Gretna ... starting to feel the warm embrace of safety from relegation. A top six finish no longer seems impossible.

Wow, and another against Hibernian! They are on a roll.

The Thistle cannot be stopped. Great win today, but Hibs always seem to choke when they come north. In five games at Caley's new stadium, Hibs have scored exactly zero goals. Four wins and a scoreless draw. We own Hibs at home. Caley is now in 8th place with 19 points, and I think we can finally stop worrying about survival in the league for one more season. We also have Hibs coming up in the Scottish Cup, so we have a good chance of moving on there too. Mon the Caley.

This must be some kind of footballer blog...

Yes, Camille. Lately, it is. I need to email you in the next few days - need to talk about writing and not just football football football. I'm working on it, but it's a lot harder to change gears when your job is crazy AND your team is running rampant.

Unstoppable it seems. If you have time, I'd love to hear about why there is bad blood with Hearts. Feel free to send an e-mail if the blog is getting too much with the football.

If no time then no worries. And best wishes for the holidays.
